unrealized feeling.

one moment.

fruitioned.

breathe warmth.

the thrill.

embers fly.

love realized.

inhale it.

—again.

mirror by myra perrings

how clearly does the stream reflect the bending tree.

the water is so still and pure that it can be

a perfect mirror for the boughs of leafy green,

whose shadows gently fall like the patterns on a screen.

how clearly does the soul reflect the Masters’ will

when it is purified of self, when it is still:

as waters trace designs of boughs that bend above,

God’s pattern shows through lives made pure by love.

2000.11.06 Ultrasound

I heard daddy whispering quietly one night,
He said you were sleeping while his ear was pressed tight.
I pushed out my little hand in search for the sound,
He must not have noticed for his head did not turn around.

Daddy went on to say, “We 4 are waiting for you,”
I said to myself, “four? I only know of two!”
I know of Mommy and Daddy, who else could he mean?
I’m starting to remember, I’ve heard them talk of the BEANS!!

Daddy said, “Listen little one, you have two big brothers.”
And we are all so excited to see you, especially your mother.
Then Daddy mentioned something about maybe 1 week
Maybe he meant that’s when we will finally meet!!

“How exciting”, I said “Maybe I can finally come out!”
Daddy then said, “Hold on there, there’s still someone to think about”
“Your Mommy has been working very hard for you, three more months it would be a year!”
“Let’s make this day easy for her, that day being when you appear.”

I said, “Ok, Dad…I’ll do my best—
Cause Mommy already told me that she would do the rest.”
Daddy said one more thing to me, so I sat up tall..
“You’ll find out soon enough but, you’ve got the best Mother of all!”

“Mom, I think I’m going to like this new little nest,
Because You, Daddy and the Beans sure sound like the best!”

When Light Breaks by Patti Callahan Henry: Book Cover

When Light Breaks by Patti Callahan Henry

Pub. Date: May 2006

Patti Callahan Henry has woven her lyrical Southern voice throughout the Lowcountry landscape. Now, as two women from opposite sides of the same sea meet, a tale unfolds that will draw readers into the heart’s remembrances-and the tender awakenings of first love.

Though bogged down in the stress of planning her elaborate wedding to a professional golfer, twenty-seven-year-old Kara Larson still makes time to visit ninety-six-year-old Maeve Mahoney at her nursing home. And as Maeve recounts the rambling story of her first love back in Ireland, Kara is driven to remember her own first love: childhood neighbor Jack Sullivan.

SONNET #43, FROM THE PORTUGUESE
By Elizabeth Barrett Browning Published in 1850
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of being and ideal grace.
I love thee to the level of every day's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for right.
I love thee purely, as they turn from praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life; and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

Filed under: just for fun, kids :: lil peanut by joleyn marie {wambolt} larson @ 12:02 pm

IMG_9632ii

my peanut has bangs! i can’t believe it myself. for weeks, probably more like for months…she’s begged, she’s pleaded with me, ”please mom, can i have baaaaaangs. pleeeeease, mom.”  yesterday we went to the store and got the “hair” magazine…the one she has seen me page through countless times to do something new with my hair. she looked and looked, kept the book in her room all day, going through all the options. my heart would stop everytime she stopped on page 46. short dark cut with dark red highlights. she thought that one was so pretty. {sigh} it’s her hair, i can do this, i’d remind myself.  finally after allowing myself to accept this part of my baby….she was craving change…..she’s had bangs ever since we started growing her hair out…..age 3? more time passed she decided. “i know what i want mom.” “i want your bangs.” {smile} well…sweetie, i think that will be just boot-i-ful on you. let’s do it. she didn’t even hesitate…as she pulled me into the bathroom. scissors laid out, comb and spray too. she was ready. i was getting there.

we parted little bits at first, pulled the rest back in a pony. we’ll start with small sections…she agreed with her biggest toothless smile. {this is hard for momma} i combed down the bangs, they covered her tiny face. she was still smiling. i asked one more time…are you sure sweetie? YES!! Mom!!! just do it!!

and………

…………………………………………………that is what i did. slowly….i cut away….and soon i was peeking into the biggest happiest eyes ever. she touched her head…do i have bangs?  as she turned to look in the mirror. still smiling and ooohing and shining….like all little girls do when they think they look beautiful.  i love them momma!!! i love them….do you? i had to take a breath, but out came the words….”sweetie you are beautiful” and “i love them”. i did, i do…love them. she smiled all night, and all night i kept looking at her. how different she looks now. {sigh} i can’t imagine having to let her make bigger decisions….hold on momma….life is just getting going…with this little one. {smile}
