the kid’s and i spent the afternoon downtown in bismarck today. it’s a summer tradition we’ve come to really enjoy. we had lunch provided by “the walrus”, listened to the Capital City Saxophone Quartet. {which by the way, the kids actually liked} we shopped around the local vendors and bought a few things too. probably heading back next week. saw so many cute things, hard to pick just one. :)

IMG_2948ii

My favorite find of the day was this super soft hand made beanie {hat}….

IMG_2952ii

…and can you see why?

IMG_2951ii

Alex bought a bacon treat for Marley and TR bought this fleece tug toy.

IMG_2950ii

Jhacie got this cute velvet burned out coin purse, and alex got a camo over the should wallet.

IMG_2949ii

Jhacie and Alex both got these cute little hanging owls that are made out of old ties.

Alex had his tourne this week. I loved the “new” look of the peewee upper division. They got to play on the same fields as the older boys, and they played night games as well. It was just a good move over all for the baseball program.

Anyways…on to his last game. By this time we had lost our shirt, didn’t want to wear the pants…but he brought his A game. :)

IMG_2440ii

he smacked this one out … and got a triple out of it.

IMG_2450ii

he loved playing first…his favorite spot.

IMG_2454ii

got the out..bring ‘em in. :)

little goob brings me goosebumps…just like his big bro’s. i think i’m in for it when he gets bigger. :)

after the all star tourne in west fargo we headed home for the mandan cal ripken league tourne. the boys played their hearts out. winning two games and losing two games…ending up 2nd place over all. we had some of the most exciting games of the tourne. two games ending up extra inning games…and winning/losing by one run.

we played the a’s losing to them the first game, only to come back in game three and win by one in extra innings…that was the team to beat all year…and we did it come crunch time. it was a nail biter to say the least…ending up with some major “chest bumpage” in the end. lol!   our second game we played the  phillies winning  by a landslide, then we played the astro’s winning game 4, and on to the championship against the dodgers where we lost by one in extra innings…ugh, the agony of defeat.

kept you all hanging didn’t i? jeesh…sorry about that. :) we ended up packing that night…just in case….and when we woke up in the morning…decided to take our chances. motrin in hand we all jumped in the expi, and headed to west fargo. the kids played their hearts out and won the first game against wapeton. ry was still fevering but he hung on. pitched that game and did so well. alex was about the same. the second game we played was against bismarck and wow they are good! we lost to them, and to west fargo the third game. that was it for us. out of the tourne but we still had a blast with the parents who traveled with the team. we tailgated at the park, swam till we were pruned, ate till we were stuffed, and then swam some more. :) it was a good trip, and we were blessed because every one survived.

alex…not feeling so hot.

IMG_2199ii

we had big plans for this weekend. big, i tell ya. :) ry’s all star team was heading to fargo for the state tourne. a possible 5 day event full of sun, fun and baseball. we’ve been planning…well…ever since we got back from the minot tourne…we’ve been awaiting the fun trip. swimsuits, glove & bat, uniform, water, gatorade, chips, seeds…man, who can forget the seeds…we had everything on the list. yesterday things started to come to a complete hault…more like hit us like a loaded frieght train….alex had a severe headache, and ryan was soon to follow. fevers, sore throats, headaches, dizziness, puke`ness. you name it, they were feeling it. the tinge i felt in my stomach pulled so tight. my heart sank a bit. man, what crummy timing…why now?  ryan’s tired eyes told me not to even talk. not one word. the disappointment was already in his face. “good chance i don’t get to go now, huh mom?” all i could say was let’s just wait and see what the doc says. we made it through the night..barely…thanks to the steady dose of motrin and ice water. the doctor visit was a null event. not strep, not influenza, but the culture would come back on saturday to know for sure. he’d call our cell to let us know…scripts in hand…just in case…we left the doc office, wondering what the heck we were going to do now. do we go and risk having a complete meltdown of the sickies for the rush of a baseball game, or do we bag the weekend, stay home and get rested up? ry’s answer…”i’m playing, mom…even if my head is still throbbing.”  kinda get choked up at this point.  i’ve known this feeling….personally been there a time or two.  won many basketball games with a sprained ankle or a stress fracture,  jumped my furthest long jump with a pulled hamstring…the dedication you have, the competitiveness…it stays with you. now i see it through the eyes of my kids. i know this isn’t the end of the world by any means…he’s only 11…but it still hurts…it still dissapoints, it still stings.

so now….i do the next thing, say a prayer, call my hubby to let him know.

deep breath and now we wait… unsure of what tomorrow brings.

we traveled to minot this weekend to cheer on the mandan braves all-star teams. both the 11 year old and 12 year old teams played in a round robin. ryan is on the 11 year old team this year. they played three games.  losing 9-7 the first game to harbey. winning 2-1 the second game against williston. losing against dickinson the third game. over all it was good experience. we head to fargo this next weekend for the 11 year old state tourne.

Someday
by Charles R. Swindoll

Philippians 4:11-13

SOMEDAY WHEN THE KIDS ARE GROWN, things are going to be a lot different. The garage won’t be full of bikes, electric train tracks on plywood, sawhorses surrounded by chunks of two-by-fours, nails, a hammer and saw, unfinished “experimental projects,” and the rabbit cage. I’ll be able to park both cars neatly in just the right places, and never again stumble over skateboards, a pile of papers (saved for the school fund drive), or the bag of rabbit food—now split and spilled. Ugh!

SOMEDAY WHEN THE KIDS ARE GROWN, the kitchen will be incredibly neat. The sink will be free of sticky dishes, the garbage disposal won’t get choked on rubber bands or paper cups, the refrigerator won’t be clogged with nine bottles of milk, and we won’t lose the tops to jelly jars, catsup bottles, the peanut butter, the margarine, or the mustard. The water jar won’t be put back empty, the ice trays won’t be left out overnight, the blender won’t stand for six hours coated with the remains of a midnight malt, and the honey will stay inside the container.

SOMEDAY WHEN THE KIDS ARE GROWN, my lovely wife will actually have time to get dressed leisurely. A long, hot bath (without three panic interruptions), time to do her nails (even toenails if she pleases!) without answering a dozen questions and reviewing spelling words, having had her hair done that afternoon without trying to squeeze it in between racing a sick dog to the vet and a trip to the orthodontist with a kid in a bad mood because she lost her headgear.

SOMEDAY WHEN THE KIDS ARE GROWN, the instrument called a “telephone” will actually be available. It won’t look like it’s growing from a teenager’s ear. It will simply hang there . . . silently and amazingly available! It will be free of lipstick, human saliva, mayonnaise, corn chip crumbs, and toothpicks stuck in those little holes.

SOMEDAY WHEN THE KIDS ARE GROWN, I’ll be able to see through the car windows. Fingerprints, tongue licks, sneaker footprints, and dog tracks (nobody knows how) will be conspicuous by their absence. The back seat won’t be a disaster area, we won’t sit on jacks or crayons anymore, the tank will not always be somewhere between empty and fumes, and (glory to God!) I won’t have to clean up dog messes another time.

SOMEDAY WHEN THE KIDS ARE GROWN, we will return to normal conversations. You know, just plain American talk. “Gross” won’t punctuate every sentence seven times. “Yuk!” will not be heard. “Hurry up, I gotta go!” will not accompany the banging of fists on the bathroom door. “It’s my turn” won’t call for a referee. And a magazine article will be read in full without interruption, then discussed at length without mom and dad having to hide in the attic to finish the conversation.

SOMEDAY WHEN THE KIDS ARE GROWN, we won’t run out of toilet tissue. My wife won’t lose her keys. We won’t forget to shut the refrigerator door. I won’t have to dream up new ways of diverting attention from the gumball machine . . . or have to answer “Daddy, is it a sin that you’re driving forty-seven in a thirty-mile-per-hour zone?” . . . or promise to kiss the rabbit goodnight . . . or wait up forever until they get home from dates . . . or have to take a number to get a word in at the supper table . . . or endure the pious pounding of one Keith Green just below the level of acute pain.

Yes, someday when the kids are grown, things are going to be a lot different. One by one they’ll leave our nest, and the place will begin to resemble order and maybe even a touch of elegance. The clink of china and silver will be heard on occasion. The crackling of the fireplace will echo through the hallway. The phone will be strangely silent. The house will be quiet . . . and calm . . . and always clean . . . and empty . . . and filled with memories . . . and lonely . . . and we won’t like that at all. And we’ll spend our time not looking forward to Someday but looking back to Yesterday. And thinking, “Maybe we can babysit the grandkids and get some life back in this place for a change!”

Could it be that the apostle Paul had some of this in mind when he wrote:

I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. (Philippians 4:11)

Maybe so. But then again, chances are good Paul never had to clean up many dog messes.
